Stake List Utility

Graphic Grade had extensive offset point creation tools to create StakeLists. Although SmartGrade possesses a superior one-off offset tool some existing Graphic Grade users prefer to limit their field users to just selecting stake list points.

Currently Earthwork 4D can just generate stake list points on selected points, typed in points, and at an interval along a selected line. We need to supplement this and I propose we lump the new functionality into some sort of floating dialog to accommodate the wide range of stake point creation types. We can also export these points as part of kmz generation. Graphic Grade currently creates stake list points these ways.

  • Picked Points
  • Adding points by typing coordinates
  • Adding along a line at intervals
  • Adding along a line (sort of F6 snap equivalent)
  • Created an inline offset. Pick two points to establish direction and that creates a stake point at the offset distance inline with the bearing established.
  • Offset point - Right/Left. Pick two points to establish bearing and create perpendicular stake point offset from second point
  • Offset Line - Creates a matching line of stake list points. Pick to establish bearing, Right/Left
  • Grid - Pick to establish bearing. Creates grid of stake list points at set intervals in a grid

Additional stake list points to consider creating

  • Creating staking offset points along an alignment by station offset. User needs to pick COGO alignment and then specify station and offset. Label to be station and offset
  • Creating radius points with label of radius info.
  • Export Stake List points to KMZ (Stake Icon, Stake List Layer)

Functions

Stake list creation can be broken in to two types.

  • Creating a single point (picked, coordinates, on a line (F6), offset inline, right, left)
  • Creating a series of points (interval, grid, offset lines)

Staking Guide Rules

We also concern ourselves with being Perpendicular or tangent to the line at the staking point. We are at one of these positions “On the line” if we are within 0.05 feet of a line projected at one of those angles from the stake point. If we are at a corner point, then we also look at a line 45 degrees off of the stake point

If we are “On the line” then we double the size of the rubber line to the user position plus give an indicator sound that we have entered an “On the line” condition. There is no sound leaving “On the Line”, but the rubber line does revert to normal size.

1) Tangent is the average of the incoming, and outgoing line segment bearings. 2) The 45 degree angle is the tangent angle plus 45 degrees. (mathematical plus .. so it rotates CCW ) 3) The 90 degree angle is the tangent angle plus 90 degrees. (mathematical plus .. so it rotates CCW )

If we don't have a line but a just a point then we assume due north as the tangent direction.

Ideas:

When in stake list mode show default offsets like we do in SmartGrade staking and allow the user to add points by picking the ends. The distance offset is live so if the user changes the default offset distance the staking hint lines change to reflect that.

Populate the label automatically with the point or line label of the picked reference point along with what was done (ie; Bldg-off 5, off In - 5)

Do we add an option to offset line to create stake list points?

Pick by label - Assign stake list points

Allow Ctrl-Pick to pick multiple points at once.

* Picked Points

Detail Entry

The Detail layer is extra information (Notes, 3D views, Plan Sheets, Phone#, Links) that a user can add to Earthwork 4D which can then be exported to KMZ.

Functions

  • Enter Notes - Notes can contain text, Phone#s, Links
  • Create 3D screen shots. Creates placemarks for google earth of user captured 3D views without a background.

New ADF Writer Dialog

Interface by Dave. Connections by Bill. This is a combination of the current ADF Writer dialog and the KMZ Export Dialog. This allows the user to control ADF outputs to a greater level without simply deleting undesired data.

Note: The Include images checkbox is now included on the treeview rather than as a separate checkbox. It also includes the capability to set a surface to None and to include precalculated trimeshes and/or Isopachs in the file.

Materials 4D Stories
