Truck Tracking System

I don't know the magic marketing name for this yet. It consists of SimpleTrack to track trucks, scrapers, etc. and a yet unnamed program to provide the job foreman both production feedback and truck ETA and distance. The other different part of this is it's a mobile system that can be standalone from the desktop software.

Customer Environment/Issues

Trucks are problematic for construction for several reasons. By nature they are often out of sight and oversight hauling material in varying routes and traffic conditions. It's also very common for those trucks to be hired by the day rather than being owned by the construction company. Last, many of the operations on the job site are dependent on the trucks being on site in a timely manner.

The foreman has several concerns. They are:

  • Do I have enough trucks/vehicles to maximize production without wasting money on extra vehicles.
  • Is my expensive production equipment (excavators, dozers, pavers with help) waiting for relatively cheaper things like trucks. This is a worse case for losing money.
  • The foreman has reports to fill out reports at the end of the day for production. We can provide him with that number to back up any other means.

Story 1

  • The Foreman hands out trackers (in mag boxes or otherwise) to each truck at the beginning of the day and work begins.
  • The trucks begin running. An excavator loads them and they leave the site and take the material away to be dumped.
  • The Foreman sees that the line of trucks is diminishing and brings up our app that shows the list of trackers and the distance they are from the job site. The distance and average speed creates an ETA. (Note: We can provide a lot more information if the Foreman creates a load zone polygon. Trucks within the load zone should not display ETA) A map of truck locations might make a lot of sense here too.

Note: While this is aimed at trucks which are a broad construction use case this also will work for Scrapers and other on-site vehicles.
